In the hopes of drawing people to the country for the 2016 Summer Olympics, Brazil is temporarily waiving visa requirements for certain travelers from June 1 to September 18.
U.S. tourists, as well as Japanese, Australian, and Canadian passport holders, will be allowed to enter the country for up to 90 days without a visa. Brazilian officials hope to boost tourism through the easier entry process and ease logistics for travel surrounding the Olympics.
Typically, U.S. citizens traveling to Brazil are required to make an appointment at their nearest Brazilian consulate, complete an application, and pay the $160 fee. During this temporary visa-waive period however, citizens of the U.S., Japan, Australia, and Canada are exempt from this process, saving themselves time and money.
