At Berardi Immigration Law, we like to keep it all in the family! One of our favorite client stories is the Rhodes family. More than 11 years ago, Berardi Immigration Law’s Managing Partner, Rosanna Berardi, represented a Canadian client named Kristin Rhodes. Kristin was interested in working in the United States and reached out to Rosanna for her assistance. As Kristin was Canadian and had an education background in computers, Rosanna was able to prepare a TN application on Kristin’s behalf. The TN application was successfully approved for a three-year period.
A few years later, Kristin again reached out to Rosanna for her assistance. Kristin had just gotten engaged to a U.S. citizen and was unsure how to proceed. Once Kristin was married, Rosanna was able to file an Adjustment of Status Green Card application on behalf of Kristin and her new husband. The application was approved and Kristin was granted Lawful Permanent Resident Status.
With both of Kristin’s applications being approved so smoothly, she referred her brother, Eric Rhodes, to our firm. Eric had just recently married a U.S. citizen. Rosanna was also able to file an Adjustment of Status Green Card application on behalf of Eric and his wife. Several years later, Eric again reached out to our law firm with an interest in obtaining U.S. citizenship. As the spouse to a U.S. citizen and a lawful permanent resident for the required three years, Eric qualified for Naturalization. After successfully passing the Naturalization interview and testing, Eric was granted U.S. citizenship.
As a U.S. citizen, Eric was then able to petition for a green card for his Canadian parents, Adam and Hannah. As his parents were still in Canada, we were unable to file an Adjustment of Status Green Card application for them. In this instance, we first filed Form I-130, Petition for an Alien Relative on behalf of Adam and Hannah separately. After six months, the first stage of the green card process was approved. The second stage of the process was Visa Processing. This second stage involved submitting certain documents to a branch of the Department of State known as the National Visa Center (NVC). The NVC then forwarded the case to the U.S. Embassy in Montreal where Adam and Hannah were required to attend a Green Card visa interview. At the interview, Adam and Hannah were both approved. Adam and Hannah received their green cards after making their first entry to the U.S.
Berardi Immigration Law was able to help this family both work and permanently reside in the United States. The entire Rhodes family is now happily living the American dream in Florida.
