With the upcoming Labor Day/Labour Day weekend (August 31 – September 3), Berardi Immigration Law sends out a friendly reminder to our friends to plan your trips accordingly for an increase in traffic at border crossings. Here are a few tips to keep in mind:
Check border crossing times online, which are updated hourly. You can access this information at the CBP “Border Wait Times” website.
Consider using an alternative and less heavily traveled entry route, especially during mid-day periods of high traffic.
Be prepared for the inspection process before arriving at the booth. Have your crossing documents for all passengers available to hand to the border officer. Click here for Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative compliant documents.
When crossing the border, all travelers and vehicles are subject to search. Please keep this in mind when transporting gifts for special occasions. Remember to declare everything purchased or acquired outside of the United States. If duty is applicable, credit cards or cash payment in U.S. currency is acceptable. Prepared foods for personal consumption or for family and friend gatherings are allowed.
