Several weeks ago, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced that they were moving away from paper I-94 cards to electronic records for travelers entering by air or sea. You can read about it by clicking here.
Beginning April 30, CBP began phasing out the I-94 paper form at various ports-of-entry to the U.S.  Under the new process, the CBP officer, at the time of inspection, stamps the travel document with an admission stamp showing the date of admission, class of admission, and the date until which the traveler is admitted.
The computerization of Form I-94 is also stimulating an update to the Social Security Administration procedures manual. Rather than having to wait 10 days after entry as had previously been the case, eligible entrants to the U.S. will now be able to apply immediately for a Social Security card.
